BIO

Jonlouis Gonzalez (b. 1993, Coney Island, NY) is a Puerto Rican artist based in Miami, Florida. Growing up along Florida’s Space Coast, Gonzalez developed a deep fascination with exploration both of the outer universe and of the human condition. His practice has since evolved into an interconnected universe of its own, where each body of work adds new symbols, narratives, and layers of meaning.

Blending painting, sculpture, and large-scale installations, Gonzalez creates imagery that feels both personal and universal. Astronaut figures appear frequently in his work, serving as guardians, storytellers, and explorers, symbols of humanity’s search for connection, resilience, and belonging. His iconography is rooted in his upbringing but resonates broadly, reflecting everyday human experiences and contemporary social challenges.

Gonzalez’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, art fairs, and museum collections worldwide. He has recently exhibited at Vertical Gallery (Chicago, IL, 2024), Laundromat Art Space (Miami, FL, 2024), the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Miami, FL), and the Museum of Science & Industry (Tampa, FL). His artwork is held in both private and public collections across the globe.

In 2021, Gonzalez was selected by SpaceX to participate in Inspiration4, the world’s first all-civilian space mission. His artwork was launched into orbit and circled Earth for three days before returning, making history as the first artwork ever sent into space.
